§ Mr. Maclean[holding answer 22 July 1996]I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that a total of 392,402 persons were held in custody in Metropolitan police stations between April 1995 and March 1996. The period of time for which each detainee was held is not recorded centrally.
