HC Deb 19 July 1996 vol 281 c678W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to take forward the proposals outlined in the national cycling strategy; and if he will make a statement. [38018]

Mr. Norris

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport has already announced that the Department fully supports the national cycling strategy launched on 10 July. We shall take action wherever we can to implement the strategy, both on our own and in conjunction with others. The process of realising the detailed proposals in the strategy will be guided by the national cycling forum, and I expect a first meeting of the forum to be held this autumn.

Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport which sections of the national cycling strategy it is Government policy to implement. [38005]

Mr. Norris

The Government's policy towards cycling was set out in a statement in June 1994. This is relevant to all the sections of the new national cycling strategy. The Department of Transport will work with other Government Departments and organisations in the public, commercial and voluntary sectors to achieve the strategy's objectives.
