§ 4. Mr. HealdInformation relating to the number of people in the state earnings-related pension scheme for each year since 1985–86 to 1992–93 is given in the table. Information relating to the number of people who entered, left, and re-entered SERPS is not currently available and I will write to the hon. Member with these details shortly.

The table gives the numbers of people who have a qualifying year for additional pension purposes by virtue of having paid some class 1 national insurance contributions at the not contracted-out rate during the year with relevant earnings greater than or equal to the lower earnings limit applicable to that year.
