HC Deb 09 January 1996 vol 269 c94W
20. Mr. Jim Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what assessment he has made of the effect on international security of a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty. [6360]

Mr. Arbuthnot

The Government believe that a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty would strengthen the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and thereby contribute to international security. It is for this reason that Britain is actively negotiating to conclude an effective and verifiable CTBT commanding universal adherence as soon as practicable.
