§ Mr. Hanley[holding answer 30 January 19961]: Diplomatic wing expenditure on all forms of overseas travel, overseas accommodation and related expenses is:
- 1993–94: £28,792,720
- 1994–95: £25,790,597
The above includes expenditure on transfer journeys, medical journeys, local and regional travel, Queen's messenger travel, ministerial visits and subsistence, including accommodation costs. Figures for earlier years cannot be obtained without incurring disproportionate costs.
Estimated outturn figures for overseas expenditure for 1995–96 cannot be provided as the apportionment between UK and overseas expenditure can, under the present accounting system, be made only after such expenditure has been incurred. The allocation of funds for 1996–97 has not yet been determined.
