HC Deb 17 December 1996 vol 287 c565W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to provide short-term emergency fuel supplies to the island of Coll. [9277]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The Scottish Office has no immediate plans to provide emergency fuel supplies to the island of Coll. However, arrangements for doing so have been the subject of discussions between the emergency planning unit of the Scottish Office, the local council, local suppliers and the Army.

Mr. Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what discussions he has had with Argyll and Bute Council about the need for short-term emergency fuel supplies for the island of Coll. [9278]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The emergency planning branch of the Scottish Office has been regularly in touch with Argyll and Bute emergency planning unit about the fuel shortage on the island of Coll. Discussions have taken place about the options for the delivery and dispensing of fuel by commercial sources and by the Army. Argyll and Bute council have deployed a diesel-powered vehicle to the island to help with transport problems.
