To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of the peace process in the middle east. [22629]

Mr. Hanley

We have been appalled at the recent terrorist attacks in Israel.

The UK condemns these outrages and will work with her friends and allies to combat the terrorist threat and continue to work for peace.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans he has to visit the middle east in 1996 to discuss the peace process. [22649]

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans he has to follow up the recent peace conference to help ensure the security of Israel.[22630]

Mr. Hanley

A meeting of officials to follow up the Sharm el-Sheikh conference took place in Washington on 27 to 29 March. The UK will play a full part in preparation of a ministerial level follow-up to take place later this week.
