§ Mr. Jonathan EvansMy Department has received a number of inquiries about the implications of the revocation of the 1986 regulations. My officials have held discussions with representatives of the trading standards service and explained that the supply of fireworks to 753W children under 16 remains an offence both under section 31 of the Explosives Act 1875 (as amended) and under the General Product Safety Regulations 1994.

§ Mr. EvansI am satisfied that the requirements currently in place are adequate to prevent the sale of fireworks to children under 16 years of age. I do not believe there is any need for changes in the legislation.
