HC Deb 18 October 1995 vol 264 cc293-4W
Mr. Tom Clarke

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if she will list the changes in the role of disability employment advisers consequent upon the Jobseekers Act 1944. [37152]

Mr. Forth

Responsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Service Agency under its chief executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from M. E. G. Fogden to Mr. Tom Clarke, dated 18 October 1995:

The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your question about the changes in the role of Disability Employment Advisers (DEAs) consequent upon the Jobseekers' Act 1994.

I do not expect the DEA role to change significantly as a result of the Act.

Like all Employment Service client advisers, DEAs will need to carry out their functions in accordance with the principles of the Act. However, they will retain responsibility for their existing client group-people who have complex employment barriers result from disability-and for the Job Seekers Allowance related processes affecting them.
