The Secretary of State for Transport has asked me to reply to your recent question about what date the former Road Programme Director left the Highways Agency; if the severance terms included lump sum payments; and what subsequent applications under the business appointment rules have been received from him.The former Road Programme Director left the Highways Agency on 30 April 1995. He received the normal severance terms, which included lump sum payments. The former Road Programme Director made an application under the business appointment rules to accept an appointment with the company Ove Arup and Partners, and this was approved following reference to the Cabinet Office and consultation with relevant trade associations.
