The Secretary of State for Social Security has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question about how many income support claimants are currently receiving disability premium, with a breakdown of their means of qualification for each of his Department's benefit offices covering the Doncaster and Mexborough area in respect of (a) receipt of invalidity benefit, (b) submission of medical certificates only, (c) receipt of severe disablement allowance or (d) receipt of disability living allowance; and what were the comparable figures for 12 months ago.The full range of information requested is not available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.Statistics are maintained for each Benefit Agency District on the number of income Support customers in receipt of a disability premium. The figure for the Doncaster district at the end of August 1994 was 3,204 and the end of August 1995 was 3,423. This district comprises of Doncaster West and Doncaster East offices. The figure for the Rother and Dearne district at the end of August 1994 was 4,704 and the end of August 1995 was 5,109. This district comprises of Rotherham South, Goldthorpe, Mexborough, Rotherham North and Wath-on-Dearne offices.I hope you find this reply helpful.
