Mr. Bayley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when procedures will be agreed between his Department's finance division and Her Majesty's Treasury to enable the special payments section of the Child Support Agency to pay compensation to Wendy Hardaker and Janet Daniel, on whose behalf applications for compensation were made in July 1994 and November 1994. The chief executive of the Child Support Agency, Miss Ann Chant, will write to the hon. Member regarding the cases of Wendy Hardaker and Janet Daniel.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Secuirty what is his Department's definition of "absent parents not paying maintenance" as referred to in paragraph nine of the annexe of the memorandum CS7 submitted by the Child Support Agency to the Social Security Select Committee prior to the Committee hearing of 18 October. I am replying to your question about the definition of "absent parents not paying maintenance".This part of the Memorandum relates to an estimate of the proportion of cases taken on by the Agency since April 1994, in which the absent parent was not making regular payments of maintenance to the parent with care.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, pursuant to his answer of 25 October,Official Report, column 711, relating to benefit savings, if he will define which actions will start the four-week period or the eight-week period in cases where the parent with care ceases to claim income support. I am replying to your Parliamentary Question to the Secretary of State for Social Security about Child Support Agency assessments.As at 15 September 1995, there are 135,974 parents with care who have received at least one maintenance payment in the last 13 weeks via the Agency collection service.
