HC Deb 07 November 1995 vol 265 cc750-1W
Sir John Cope

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what measures he has taken to encourage aerodromes to introduce noise amelioration schemes in accordance with his announcement of March 1993 in respect of the conclusions of the review of aircraft noise legislation; and what assessment he has made of their impact. [41437]

Mr. Norris

It has been the Government's policy for many years that measures to minimise noise nuisance from aerodromes are best developed and monitored locally. The Government continue to encourage aerodromes to consult their local communities. Many aerodromes have established voluntary arrangements and at most of the larger airports consultation is required. The manner in which consultation is conducted is a purely local issue, in which the Government have no role.

Sir John Cope

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects to issue the national guidance on aircraft noise amelioration, in accordance with his announcement of March 1993 in respect of the review of aircraft noise legislation. [41438]

Mr. Norris

In due course.

Sir John Cope

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what considerations will determine whether the use of non-military aircraft at military airfields will be subject to the new legislation on aircraft noise amelioration, set out in his announcement of March 1993 in respect of the conclusions of the review of aircraft noise legislation. [41436]

Mr. Norris

The use of military aerodromes by civil aircraft is governed by military regulations, which are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence.
