Mr. Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to increase the number of Welsh-speaking general medical practitioners in Wales. [41485]

Mr. Richards

My right hon. Friend has no jurisdiction in this matter. Recruitment policies are the responsibility of family health services authorities and, in the case of partnerships, the existing doctors in the practice. The distribution of doctors throughout England and Wales is the responsibility of the Medical Practices Committee.
