HC Deb 06 November 1995 vol 265 cc640-1W
Mr. Milburn

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many NHS continuing care beds have been available in each(a) region and (b) district in each of the last five years for which figures are available; [41422]

(2) how many (a) NHS and (b) private respite care beds were available (i) by region and (ii) by health authority in each of the last five years for which figures are available. [41407]

Mr. Richards

Information concerning the number of beds in NHS hospitals is collected centrally on the basis of specialties recognised by the royal colleges. As neither continuing care nor respite care are recognised specialities the information requested is not available for NHS hospitals.

Private and voluntary residential care homes and private nursing homes make returns to the Welsh Office of the numbers of residents who were admitted as short-stay residents. These are defined as persons for whom the home is intended to provide a holiday or temporary care, for example while their relatives or usual carers are on holiday. The most recent figures are shown in the table.

(2) what financial reserves have been held (a) by trusts and (b) by health authorities in each region in each of the last three years. [41417]

Mr. Richards

As the information requested is detailed, I have placed a copy in the Library of the House.
