Mr. Robert AinsworthTo ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many full-time and part-time immigration adjudicators employed by the Immigration Appellate Authority are currently designated as special adjudicators to hear appeals against a refusal of asylum; and what plans he has to increase that number. [26179]
Mr. John M. TaylorOf the 20 full-time and 91 part-time immigration adjudicators appointed by the Lord Chancellor, 20 and 57 respectively are currently designated as special adjudicators to hear appeals against a refusal of asylum. Increases in the numbers of full-time and part-time immigration adjudicators are planned during the course of 1995.
It is expected that all full-time immigration adjudicators appointed will be designated as special adjudicators. Increases in the number of part-time immigration adjudicators designated as special adjudicators will be made as they gain sufficient experience of immigration work, the number depending on the work load of the Immigration Appellate Authority.
