To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to her answer of 20 June,Official Report, column 206, on medical cost inflation, what are her estimates of the inflation rate for the hospital and community health services for each year from 1979–80 to 1992–93; and what components of national health service spending are covered by this inflation measure. Estimates for hospital and community health services inflation are shown in the table. The inflation measure covers HCHS expenditure on staffing and the purchase of goods and services.
