HC Deb 26 June 1995 vol 262 c510W
Mr. Simpson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what policies her Department has for assessing pupils of too low an academic standard to take the formal standard assessment test. [30644]

Mr. Forth

Teachers formally assess the school work of all seven, 11 and 14-year-olds in English, mathematics and science. Practical classroom-based national curriculum tasks are provided for teachers to administer where they feel it is appropriate.

Mr. Simpson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what representations she has received concerning standard assessment tests(a) in total and (b) from people in Nottinghamshire; and what proportion of these representations was critical of the test. [30626]

Mr. Forth

We do not have a breakdown of all representations received.

Mr. Simpson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what has been the total cost of administering the standard assessment tests for(a) seven-year-olds (b) 11-year-olds and (c) 14-year-olds. [30635]

Mr. Forth

The costs of developing, writing, printing and distributing the tests and tasks between 1989–90 to 1994–95 are as follows:

  1. (a) seven-year-olds: £13.2 million
  2. (b) 11-year-olds: £5.3 million
  3. (c) 14-year-olds: £23.9 million.
