Whether, in their response to the First Report of the House of Commons Select Committee on Employment, Mothers in Employment, their attempt "to balance the potential benefits of the committee's recommendations against their potential impact on the public purse" included consideration of only the immediate spending implications of the committee's recommendations, or whether they also considered potential increases in revenue and reductions in expenditure from allowing mothers to move off benefit and into employment.
