To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has to make it his policy compulsorily to fortify flour with folic acid to reduce the instance of spina bifida and other neural tube defects.

The issue of fortification of foods is currently being considered by the Committee on Medical Aspects of Food Policy.
Currently manufacturers may voluntarily fortify flour and other foods with folic acid.
