To ask the Secretary of State for Education what was the costs of establishing Ofsted. [18608]

Mr. Boswell

The establishment of Ofsted was contained within the existing departmental provision for running costs, and was not separately identified. In 1992–93, DFE transferred £8.225 million to the vote of the newly created Ofsted. This covered setting up and running costs from formation on 1 September 1992 until the end of the financial year 1992–93.
