To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the future of the coal industry in Wales.

Mr. Redwood

Arrangements for the transfer of British Coal's operations in Wales to the private sector are currently under way. I am confident that this will secure a healthy long-term future for the industry.
