Mr. David Porter

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the definition of other contractual benefits besides salary for a woman on 14 weeks maternity leave under regulations in force since 16 October; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Oppenheim

[holding answer 28 November 1994]: A woman absent from work on statutory maternity leave is entitled to the benefit of the terms and conditions of employment which would have been applicable to her if she had not been absent, with the exception of remuneration. This is under section 33 of the Employment
