HL Deb 24 May 1994 vol 555 c32WA
Lord Wyatt of Weeford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will withdraw their proposal to demolish the Grade II listed Asheham House, former meeting place of the Bloomsbury Group.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (The Earl of Arran)

With the benefit of advice from English Heritage, my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Environment has decided that it would not be appropriate to take the decision on this case out of the hands of the local planning authority, who are therefore free to determine it as they think fit.
