§ Lord Jenkins of Putneyasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether Hawk ground attack aircraft sold by the United Kingdom to the Indonesian Government have been used against the civilian population in East Timor and whether the United Nations has ruled that the Indonesian occupation of East Timor is illegal.
§ Lord HenleyWe have no evidence to support allegations that British-supplied Hawk aircraft have been used for repressive purposes against the civilian population of East Timor. The United Nations Security Council resolutions of 1975 and 1976 on East Timor did not describe the occupation as illegal, but called on Indonesia to withdraw all of its forces without delay from the territory.
