To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how long a trial may continue before authorisation of an industrial process is either granted or withheld.

Mr. Atkins

The justification for, and the details and length of any trial, are provided by the operator, and must be to the satisfaction of HMIP. Any trial must comply with the criteria laid down by HMIP and be of sufficient duration to provide adequate monitoring information, in order to enable HMIP fully to assess the environmental impact.
