§ Mr. Nicholas WintertonTo ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will make a statement setting out his policy and his objectives in relation to the British film industry.
§ Mr. BrookeIt is the Government's policy to create an economic framework which will allow the United Kingdom film industry to thrive. The Department's medium-term objectives in relation to film are to help reverse the decline in British film production since 1985; to promote the United Kingdom as a location for the filming of feature films, television programmes and commercials; to expand opportunities for access to high quality films from Britain and elsewhere; and to foster international co-operation in production, distribution and exhibition of films. Measures to achieve these objectives are under consideration, and I will make an announcement as soon as practicable.
