HC Deb 11 January 1994 vol 235 cc123-4W
Mr. Peter Shore

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether the terms of reference of the current review of crossrail include an assessment of the possibilities of linking the channel tunnel rail link with Crossrail.

Mr. Norris

Although not specifically included in the terms of reference, the consultants have been asked to consider links to Union Railways at Stratford.

Mr. Butterfill

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what was the estimated cost, at current values, of the crossrail project before the start of the Bovis/Gibb study; what was the date of that estimate; and what proportion of that cost related to compensation payable under the statutory compensation code.

Mr. Norris

The base cost of the crossrail project was estimated in April 1993 to be £1,703 million at March 1990 prices, which is equivalent to £2,049 million at current values. The latter figure includes a sum of £259 million for property purchases and compensation for loss and disturbance to property owners in accordance with existing legislation.
