§ Mr. LoydenTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make it her policy to ensure that persons appointed to be chairmen of hospital trusts record their financial and professional interests in a register of interest a copy of which should be placed in the Library.
§ Dr. MawhinneyWe are currently consulting on draft codes of conduct and accountability for national health service boards. In these we propose that where there is a potential for private interests to be material and relevant to NHS business, the relevant interests should be declared and recorded in the board minutes. We also propose that directorships and other significant interests held by NHS hoard members should be declared on appointment, kept up to date and set out in the annual report. The codes are to be implemented in all NHS trusts and authorities, subject to consultation, from 1 April 1994.
