HC Deb 13 December 1994 vol 251 c623W
Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the Government will consider removing the condition attached to the United Kingdom's negative security assurance which exempts non-nuclear weapons states that are in an alliance or association with a nuclear weapons state from that assurance.

Mr. Hurd

No. We would not wish to forswear the possible use of our nuclear deterrent in the case of an attack on the United Kingdom, its dependent territories, its armed forces or its allies by a non-nuclear weapons state in association or alliance with a nuclear weapons state.
