To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the debt of Kirklees council; and if he will make a statement.

§ Mr. Baldry
The total external debt of Kirklees metropolitan council was £261 million at 31 March 1993.
We shall continue to encourage authorities to reduce its indebtedness.
