HL Deb 12 April 1994 vol 553 cc87-8WA
Baroness Faithfull

asked Her Majesty"s Government:

How many 14 year-old (a) boys and (b) girls discharged from Prison Service custody in 1987 were reconvicted within two years of discharge.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

Reconviction statistics relate to "standard list" offences as defined in Appendix 4 ofCriminal Statistics England and Wales, 1992, Cm 2410. It is estimated from the study of a sample of those discharged in 1987, that of the 306 males aged 14 discharged from Prison Service establishments in 1987, about 249, or 81 per cent., were reconvicted within two years of discharge. No females aged 14 were discharged from prison in 1987.
