HL Deb 11 April 1994 vol 553 c73WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they agree with Mr. Wiimer, the Secretary General of NATO, that action in the North Atlantic Consultative Council and discussions over the "Partnerships for Peace" "will aid in bringing about the conditions under which the CSCE (Council for Security and Co-operation in Europe) can become the core of an effective pan-European security system".

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The 10-11 January NATO Summit recognised the need for NATO to help spread security eastwards by further developing relations with member countries of the North Atlantic Co-operation Council and other members of the Council for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The Partnership for Peace was launched as part of this process. We fully support the important role of the CSCE as the sole pan-European security organisation.
