§ Lord Lester of Herne Hill
asked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will include in their next report to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, a full account of any proposals made by the Equal Opportunities Commissions for Great Britain and for Northern Ireland for legislative, judicial, administrative or other measures to be adopted to give effect to the 76WA provisions of the convention, and of the Government's response to those proposals; and if not, why not.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Lord Henley)
No. Subject to the reservations entered by the UK Government when it ratified the convention, we believe that we are complying with its provisions. The UK Government's next report to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women will report on those legislative, judicial, administrative or other measures which it has adopted within the period covered to give effect to the provisions of the convention. A full description of the Equal Opportunities Commissions' proposals is not relevant in that context.
