HL Deb 11 April 1994 vol 553 c75WA
Lord Renton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many people died of AIDS in England and Wales (or in the United Kingdom) in the last period of 12 months for which the information is available and how many of them were known to be homosexual males.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

In the United Kingdom by 31 December 1993, 1,014 deaths of people with AIDS had been reported as occurring during 1993. Of these 732 were reported to be homosexual and bisexual men. Reporting delays mean that some deaths occurring in 1993 have not yet been reported.
