To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what was(a) the agreed cost, (b) the final cost, (c) the estimated time for and (d) the actual time taken, of the construction and widening of the M20 motorway between junctions 5 and 8.

Mr. Key

(a) The accepted tender for widening the M20 between junctions 5 and 8 is £69.5 million.

(b) The final cost is not yet known.

(c) Work started on 29 July 1991. The original contract completion date was 15 February 1993 but extensions of time have been granted under the terms of the contract.

(d) The works are still under construction.
