§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if she will make it her policy to make representations to the representatives of the Russian Federation attending the convention of contracting parties of the sea disposal of wastes, being held in London on 8 to 12 November, on the dumping of Russian liquid radioactive wastes in the sea of Japan on 17 October.
§ Mr. JackThe consultative meeting of the London Convention 1972 will receive a report on the recent sea disposal of radioactive waste by Russia. This should permit a more informed view of what has taken place and will allow us to determine the terms of any necessary representations on this matter to the Russians. The United Kingdom expressed its concern about the past illegal Russian disposal of radioactive waste in the economic declaration following the G7 summit in Tokyo in July.
