To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much was spent on official hospitality in her Department in the financial year 1992–93.

Mr. Jack

[holding answer 20 October 1993]: During the 1992–93 financial year, £80,314.80 was spent on official hospitality, including £20,336 for ministerial hospitality.

The principal items included hospitality: to overseas officials and other visitors, including, for example visitors from EC organisations and from other member states; to industry representatives, trade associations and professional bodies; in the course of work being undertaken for the Department by individuals or groups of individuals in an advisory capacity; and at agricultural and trade shows.
