HL Deb 27 October 1993 vol 549 c90WA
Lord Gainford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What conclusion they have reached as a result of the consultation carried out by the Department of the Environment on whether there is a case for abolishing the Accommodation Agencies Act 1953.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield

Following consultation, we have decided that the Accommodation Agencies Act 1953 should be retained. It is clear that the need to protect those seeking accommodation from unscrupulous or bogus agencies outweigh the benefit which might come from allowing agencies to adopt new patterns of business by charging fees in advance to those seeking accommodation.
