§ Ms ShortTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many learning for work places and what budget has been allocated to each training and enterprise council in England; how many people are currently on learning for work in each area; what monitoring information is collected about learning for work participants and the subsequent destinations they will be entering; how he plans to evaluate the programme; and if he will make a statement about its extension beyond 1994.
§ Miss WiddecombeThe number of learning for work places agreed with training and enterprise councils in England for 1993–94 and approximate numbers of participants reported by them as at 27 September are given in the table. Places will be allocated for 1994–95 in December. The budget the Department of Employment allocates to TECs to meet fees and expenses is commercial516W in confidence. However, £54 million is available in England for fees, allowances and other costs during the year ending August 1994.
Monitoring and evaluation arrangements will provide information about starts, participants and qualifications. We are also monitoring take-up by gender and disability. The destinations of individuals leaving courses is being followed up. Information will also be analysed on costs and benefits.
Learning for work is scheduled to continue until August 1994 when TECs will be free to use their experience of the arrangements to offer similar provision within training for work.
