To ask the Secretary of State for Defence whether high alumina cement was used in the construction of the Queen Elizabeth military Hospital at Woolwich.

An inspection of available information shows no specific evidence of high alumina cement being used in the construction of this hospital.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the total annual maintenance expenditure on the Queen Elizabeth military hospital at Woolwich for each year since 1982; and what is the budgeted expenditure in the current year.

The budgeted expenditure for works maintenance at the Queen Elizabeth military hospital, Woolwich in 1993–94 is £1,990,000. Corresponding figures for 1990–91, 1991–92 and 1992–93 were £1,030,000, £2,040,000 and £2,430,000 respectively. Prior to 1990, works maintenance expenditure was the responsibility of the Property Services Agency and my Department does not hold any recorded information.
