HL Deb 26 May 1993 vol 546 cc20-1WA
The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they propose to make the A.9 from Perth to Inverness a dual carriageway and, if so, when.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Fraser of Cramyllie)

Approximately one quarter of the length of the A.9 between Perth and Inverness is already dualled. In the longer term, dualling may be extended between Perth and Pitlochry. The lower traffic volumes north of Pitlochry are currently insufficient to justify full dualling of this section.

A study is being commissioned to look at the options for the future development of the whole road and once this work has been completed a route action plan will be prepared to establish a programme of measures to further improve the operational efficiency and safety of the route.
