To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent discussions he has held with other member states of the European Community concerning the draft directive on the incineration of hazardous waste; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 22 March 1993]: Since the draft directive was adopted by the European Commission in March last year, there have been several discussions between the Commission and experts from member states, including the United Kingdom, on the draft. I attended a meeting of the Environment Council on 23 March at which the Council took note of a progress report on the draft.
