HC Deb 31 March 1993 vol 222 c292W
Mr. Dover

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will consider requiring consultants used directly or indirectly by his Department to achieve BS 5750 quality assurance, and to provide appropriate warranties, where structural safety, ground stabilisation, treatment of ground pollution contamination, methane and radon are concerned.

Mr. Maclean

[holding answer 26 March 1993]: It is for each consultant who chooses to tender for contracts let by, on behalf of, or in connection with grant-aid from my Department to establish in his or her own way his or her ability to carry out the work specified and to arrange whatever indemnities or warranties are appropriate. BS 5750 is not necessarily the appropriate way to demonstrate "quality assurance" in every case.
