HC Deb 30 March 1993 vol 222 c181W
Mr. Alfred Morris

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what study her Department has made of the use, including that at Manchester's Wythenshawe hospital, of cardiomyoplasty in the treatment of serious heart conditions where previously a heart transplant was seen as the only life-saving option; how many people in the United Kingdom who die prematurely of heart disease each year could be helped by cardiomyoplasty; what action she will be taking in regard to its use; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Sackville

The place of cardiomyoplasty in the surgical management of cardiac disease is not yet established. It is not possible to estimate the number of people who might benefit. The development of this procedure is being monitored by the Department.
