§ Mr. MichaelTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the problems that would arise in the event of a ship being grounded while transporting spent nuclear fuel for re-processing.
§ Mr. NorrisA grounded ship would present problems of rescue and salvage but the presence of spent nuclear fuel flasks would present no special problems. If it became necessary to salvage flasks, this would be done by the transporters in conjunction with the salvors, arid the operation would be co-ordinated by HM Coastguard.
