§ Mr. Peter BottomleyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) in which publication, speech or statement the Department has described how it takes account of the family perspective and the life cycle in the targets, activities and statistics of his Department;
(2) if he will make a statement on how his Department takes account of the family perspective and the life cycle in the targets, activities and statistics of his Department.
§ Mr. JackThe objectives, activities and expenditure plans of the Department are set out in the annual report (Cm 2208). Based on what is known from research and statistics, full account is taken of the interests of families in developing and operating a wide range of policies and programmes. These include: crime prevention; penal policy; immigration and nationality; liquor licensing; reducing drugs misuse; and others. Account is taken also of the likely impact on families of policy changes. Through its programme development unit, the Home Office is currently funding projects in a number of local areas to develop innovative approaches to family violence and to work with young people and their families aimed at reducing criminality, from which lessons should be learned and disseminated widely.
