HC Deb 05 March 1993 vol 220 c344W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what plans he has to adopt a policy under which his Department's report published under section 729 of the Companies Act 1989, will show the business connections of the inspectors appointed during that year.

Mr. Neil Hamilton

I take it that the reference should be to the Companies Act 1985. My right hon. Friend has no plans to do so.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many times since 1979 any individual criticised in an inspectors' report has acted as an inspector for his Department.

Mr. Neil Hamilton

Once. In 1977 inspectors were appointed to investigate the affairs of Gilgate Holdings Limited and they submitted their final report on 8 April 1991. The accountant inspector was subsequently criticised in a report on Ramor Investments Limited, published in 1983.
