To ask the President of the Board of Trade (1) if he will make a statement on the present state of discussions with the European Commission on support for renewable energy beyond 1998;

(2) what plans he has to announce a third non-fossil fuel obligation renewables order; and if he will make a statement.

Discussions with the European Commission are continuing. Decisions on any further renewables orders will be taken in the light of the coal review and the REAG report.
