Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what advice or guidelines he has given to NHS trusts concerning specifications of contracts for ambulance services and transport services for patients and the minimum levels of training and skills required for such personnel.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 26 July 1993]: None. The ambulance and transport services for patients provided to NHS trusts in Scotland are covered by service level agreements with the Scottish ambulance service. These agreements specify standards of service and training of personnel.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many NHS trusts have one or more contracts with private operators for ambulance or patient transport services.
